Conflict areas and junctions

CONFLICT AREAS AND JUNCTIONS

This video summarizes the benefits of a system carried out with SIDEis on the motorway, along an interchange, on the ring roads and on all extra-urban roads in general.

SIDEis improves visibility in conflict zones

 There are different types of junctions, usually though the lighting in a deceleration lane behaves as follows:

  • I arrive from a dark stretch of highway
  • I enter a lit section before the exit
  • I drive along the junction in the dark
  • I reach the toll booth square which may or may not be illuminated

There are 4 substantial problems with this type of lighting:

  1. the entire one-lane section of the junction is in the dark;
  2. the dark-light-dark-light effect along the entire junction strains the human eye;
  3. the light emitted by the poles is not directed, uneven so they do not only illuminate the deceleration lanes but also the other lanes, with more light in the central lane and less light in the overtaking one, creating confusion for those who continue on the motorway;
  4. a part of the light is wasted in the adjacent areas, because there are no optics that at 10m height are able to illuminate only one lane.

How does SIDEis solve these problems?

As the light from SIDEis is lateral, it is extremely dedicated and can be installed on the guardrail:

  1. it can illuminate the entire junction road,
  2. it can illuminate it from start to end by eliminating the dark-light-dark-light effect,
  3. the light distribution on the one-lane section would be uniform,
  4. there is no waste of light because the optic is really dedicated.t

Tunnels

TUNNELS

In tunnels SIDEis is able to perform 3 functions:

  1. Primarily functional lighting, meeting the regulatory requirements of
    • luminance, general, longitudinal and transverse uniformity on the carriageway,
    • luminance, and uniformity on the wall up to 160cm from the ground;
  2. illuminating the lateral platform which is now illuminatd by the pickets;
  3. the step marker, possibly adding green light signal modules.

In the event of smoke in the tunnel, the benefits of a light emitted laterally from below are similar to those we have seen in case of fog:

  • makes the fog wall 8 times lower,
  • is under the field of vision,
  • delimits the perimeter of the road.

Cycle lanes

CYCLE LANES

SIDEis is an extremely innovative, ultra compact, intelligent street lighting fixture, which thanks to its lateral light emission allows to overcome the limits of existing solutions, to redesign today’s infrastructure, adapting to a variety of application scenarios.

Combined with ultra-low energy consumption, the SIDEis street light was designed for the future of roadway tunnel and urban lighting. Long lasting, recyclable materials are used to build the luminaire, this reduces its impact on the environment with eco-friendly packaging.

Pedestrian crossing

PEDESTRIAN CROSSING

Installed at a height of about 1 meter, SIDEIS clearly illuminates and outlines the pedestrian crossing, improving pedestrians’ visibility for drivers, regardless of weather condition because of the increase in contrast.

Application example

 Installation of 5/10 SIDEis with red signal modules before the intersection and a presence sensor that illuminates the roadway when a vehicle passes at high speed, so that, perceiving the danger on approach, the driver slows down before the stripes (illuminated with white LED SIDEis).
